I chose these songs because they represent not only women but men as well. I think my favorite song that represents gender would be "If I were a boy" by Beyonce. This song is the perfect song to describe gender because it is all about stereotypes of men and women. This song has her starting out playing a man's role and not caring about his girlfriend, flirting with other women, and trying to act tough. The man has to play the women's role and is looking at wedding rings, respecting her boyfriend, and not flirting. In her lyrics she says "if I were a boy I think I could understand how it feels to love a girl, I swear I'd be a better man". This just is how many women view men because women are so often hurt by men that men are stereotyped to be the "bad" one in the relationship.
In the song "Boyz in the Hood" by Dynamite Hack they talk about how they are so hard and how they have all their hoes and nice cars. In one stanza they talk about how their girl gets them mad and they "reach back like a pimp and slap a hoe". Although this song is degrading towards women, it still describes gender but from a man's point of view. This song shows how men are supposed to be tough and have their women under control.
I chose the rest of the songs because they all show the roles of men and women in today's society, but these two songs are the ones that stick out the most to me.
In response to the readings, I was interested to see how in FIFE it talked about how there are so many different types of women and they are not all equal. It is interesting to read how women in general are all fighting to be equal, but the women of color or lesbians, etc. haven't even achieved the right of equality as a woman. I think that being a woman has nothing to do with color or sexual orientation, women should all be fighting for the same cause there should not be different categories.
