The Source is a non-governmental organization in Houston, Texas that works with women who are pregnant and thinking about getting an abortion. The Source is based on the Bible and does not perform abortions, but they talk with women who are trying to decide whether or not they should get an abortion. They support whichever decision the woman makes, but they first try to show her all her options before she goes through with the procedure. Women are often referred to The Source by places that do perform abortions such as Planned Parenthood. Places like Planned Parenthood try to send their clients to the Source before they go through with the procedure because they want to make sure this is what they want and won't regret their decision. The Source provides an opportunity for women to come and discuss their options with trained professionals; as well as a place for women who have already gone through with an abortion to come and talk with other women in the same situation. The Source also participates in clothing drives for women with newborns. Many women like going to the Source because they feel they can talk openly with other women and not be judged. The Source has helped many women change their minds about getting an abortion, and therefore has saved many lives. The Source is definitely worth your donations because they provide a safe place for women to talk about their problems as well as teach them about God. This is a gender issue because many women's first thought when getting pregnant is to get an abortion because they feel it will ruin their lives. Many women also feel like they have no one to talk to who understands, especially men, so this place provides the opportunity to talk with people and professionals who are knowledgeable about the situation.
In response to the readings, the chapter in FIFE and the articles talk about feminism in other countries. I think that women in America are very lucky to be free. Even though we still live in a male dominated society, women in America have a lot of opportunities compared to women in other countries. In almost every culture women are controlled by men, and we definitely need to appreciate more what we have here as women.
